Prayer
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 TIMOTHY 2:1-4 ESV
PRAYER CONVICTION
Though we are called to pray for all things in all situations, there are only a handful of specific groups that we are commanded to pray for in the New Testament. Some of those are one-another, the sick, enemies, more laborers for the harvest, and governmental leaders. “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way", 1 Timothy 2:1-2 ESV. This is a crystal clear call for the church to pray for those in governing roles in our culture. And the stunning reality was that this was in a time where dictators ruled. And we believe that the rise and fall, and even conversion, of dictators was affected in a profound way by the prayers of the Church. If that was true then, how much more now. The Church can significantly influence the governing activity of elected rulers today if she would literally and specifically engage in fervent and scriptural prayer for leaders. The neglect of this will cause other influences to rule. May we embrace our call to pray for leaders bringing to bear the influence of the kingdom of God upon the temporary rulers of our generation.
PRAYER TOOLS
As with any important and intentional mission there are always to be helpful and effective tools. ENGAGE intends to empower the praying church for their priestly ministry of prayer.
Here are a list of the tools we recommend:
The Bible:
The scriptures are the greatest tool for empowering life-changing culturally-revolutionary prayer.
Please see this video for a short instruction on how to pray the Scriptures.
Representative Search:
We recommend this search tool to identify who your personal representatives are so you can pray for them by name.

PRAYER STRATEGY
Having a prayer strategy moves prayer from being a good idea to being a fruit producing intentional service. You can have a conviction that you should pray and even have the tools to pray but still not have a plan to execute your prayer ministry. ENGAGE wants to empower your life and church with practical strategies for walking out the scriptural mandate for the Church to pray for governmental leaders. We will do this by sharing already existing strategies in local church's like this one at Riverlawn Christian Church
We would also encourage you to pray about a strategy that best fits your congregation, whether it is a hall with pictures of governing leaders, praying for one a week in a service, having a specific prayer meeting for this area, etc. Also the use of social media and email lists in newsletters can be great ways to encourage Church-wide prayer in a unified way for specific leaders.
PRAYER ACCOUNTABILITY
ENGAGE would like to encourage a non-guilt producing culture of accountability among the churches in Kansas. Healthy accountability can ensure that we are acutely walking out our strategy. We intend to do this through producing Church-to-Church reporting facilitated by ENGAGE Leaders in each Church. If a small group of churches would agree to be accountable to one another in this area of prayer we all find ourselves being more faithful to the call and see transformational gospel impact upon our public servants.
